Cellular Pathology
Cellular Pathology is the section of Pathology concerned with the study of cells (Cytology) and the study of tissues (Histopathology). More information can be found by clicking the links to each area.
NOTE: Cytology does not carry out white cell counts on fluid samples. These are done in Microbiology (Pinderfields).
Turn Around Times
The laboratory aims to report the majority (90%) of samples that it receives within a certain timeframe. These are:-

Due to a shortage of Consultant pathologists in the department, currently the published Cellular Pathology turnaround times are not all being met. The department will prioritise all cancer and urgent cases to ensure these are reported within the published turnaround times. We apologise for any delay in diagnosis.
If this is having any clinical impact on patient care please notify the department on 01924 512088 / 35088 and we will endeavour to provide a diagnosis in a timely manner. We apologise for the inconvenience and are working on actions to improve our service.
